What Sūrat Fāṭir is about
Sūrat Fāṭir has 45 āyāt in the twenty-second juzʼ. It opens in praise of Allah, Originator of the heavens and the earth, who made the angels messengers with wings, two, three and four (35:1). No one can hold back a mercy He opens for people (35:2).
The sūrah shows the rain that brings fruits of many colours, and mountains with streaks of white, red and black (35:27). It says people are the ones in need of Allah, and He is free of need (35:15), and that those with knowledge are the ones who fear Him (35:28). It describes three kinds among those who inherit the Book (35:32), and ends: if Allah took people to task for what they earn, He would not leave a creature on the earth (35:45).
- Āyāt 1–8
Originator of the heavens and the earth
Allah made the angels messengers with wings. No one can hold back His mercy, or send it once He withholds it. Do not let this world deceive you (35:5). Shayṭān is an enemy, so take him as an enemy (35:6).
- Āyāt 9–17
You are the ones in need
Allah sends the winds and revives dead land: so is the raising. Good words rise to Him (35:10). Two seas, one sweet and one salty, both give fresh meat and ornaments (35:12). Those called on besides Him own not even the skin of a date stone (35:13). People are in need of Allah, and He is free of need (35:15).
- Āyāt 18–26
The blind and the seeing
No soul carries another’s burden (35:18). The blind and the seeing are not equal, nor darkness and light, nor shade and heat, nor the living and the dead (35:19–22). Every nation had a warner (35:24).
- Āyāt 27–38
Colours, and those who fear Allah
Rain brings fruits of many colours, and the mountains have streaks of white, red and black. People, creatures and cattle differ in colour too. Those with knowledge fear Allah (35:28). Those who recite the Book and pray hope for a trade that never fails (35:29). Of those who inherit the Book, some wrong themselves, some are moderate, some race ahead in good (35:32).
- Āyāt 39–45
He holds the heavens and the earth
Allah made people successors on the earth. He holds the heavens and the earth so they do not cease (35:41). The deniers swore they would follow a warner, then fled when one came. If Allah seized people for what they earn, He would not leave a creature on the earth (35:45).
