What Sūrat aṭ-Ṭāriq is about

Sūrat aṭ-Ṭāriq has 17 āyāt in the thirtieth juzʼ. It opens with an oath by the sky and the night-comer, which gives the sūrah its name; the night-comer is the piercing star (86:1–3). Over every soul there is a guardian (86:4).

The sūrah asks the human to look at what he was created from: a gushing fluid, coming from between the backbone and the ribs (86:5–7). Allah is able to bring him back, on the Day secrets are laid bare (86:8–9). It swears by the sky that returns rain and the earth that splits open that the Qurʼān is a decisive word, not a joke (86:11–14).

  1. Āyāt 1–10

    Over every soul a guardian

By the sky and the night-comer, the piercing star, over every soul there is a guardian. Let the human look at what he was created from: a gushing fluid from between the backbone and the ribs. Allah can bring him back, on the Day secrets are laid bare and he has no strength or helper.

  2. Āyāt 11–17

    A decisive word

By the sky that returns and the earth that splits, the Qurʼān is a decisive word, not a joke (86:13–14). The deniers are plotting, and Allah is planning too. So give them time; leave them a little while (86:17).
