What Sūrat al-Aʿlā is about
Sūrat al-Aʿlā has 19 āyāt in the thirtieth juzʼ. It opens with a command: glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High (87:1). He created and proportioned, measured out and guided, brought out the pasture and then made it dry stubble (87:2–5).
The Prophet is told he will be made to recite and will not forget, except what Allah wills, and he will be eased towards ease (87:6–8). Whoever purifies himself, remembers his Lord’s name and prays has succeeded (87:14–15). People prefer this life, though the Hereafter is better and lasting (87:16–17). This is in the earlier scriptures of Ibrāhīm and Mūsā (87:18–19).
- Āyāt 1–5
Glorify your Lord, the Most High
Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High, who created and proportioned, who measured and guided, who brought out the pasture and then made it dark, dry stubble.
- Āyāt 6–13
You will not forget
The Prophet will be made to recite and will not forget, except what Allah wills. He will be eased towards ease (87:8). Remind, if reminding helps. Whoever fears Allah will take heed, and the most wretched will avoid it and enter the great Fire.
- Āyāt 14–19
The one who purifies himself
Whoever purifies himself, remembers his Lord’s name and prays has succeeded (87:14–15). Yet people prefer the life of this world, while the Hereafter is better and more lasting. This is in the earlier scriptures, the scriptures of Ibrāhīm (Abraham) and Mūsā (Moses).
