What Sūrat al-Qiyāmah is about

Sūrat al-Qiyāmah has 40 āyāt in the twenty-ninth juzʼ. It opens with an oath by the Day of Resurrection and by the self-blaming soul (75:1–2). Does the human think his bones will not be gathered? Allah is able to restore even his fingertips (75:3–4).

In the middle, the Prophet is told not to move his tongue to hurry the revelation; its gathering, recitation and explanation are on Allah (75:16–19). The sūrah describes faces radiant, looking towards their Lord, and faces gloomy (75:22–24), and the moment the soul reaches the collarbones (75:26). It ends by asking whether the One who made the human from a drop cannot give life to the dead (75:37–40).

  1. Āyāt 1–15

    The Day of Resurrection

By the Day of Resurrection and the self-blaming soul, Allah will gather the human’s bones, and can restore even his fingertips. When sight is dazed, the moon is eclipsed and the sun and moon are joined, he will ask where to flee (75:7–10). He will be told what he sent ahead and left behind, and he is a witness against himself (75:13–14).

  2. Āyāt 16–19

    Do not hurry the recitation

Do not move your tongue to hurry with it. Its gathering and its recitation are on Allah. When He recites it, follow its recitation. Then its explanation is on Him.

  3. Āyāt 20–40

Radiant faces, and the last breath

People love the passing world and leave the Hereafter. Some faces that Day are radiant, looking towards their Lord, and some are gloomy (75:22–24). When the soul reaches the collarbones, it is the parting (75:26–28). The denier neither believed nor prayed. Was he not a drop, then a clot, then shaped? Can He not give life to the dead (75:40)?
