Juzʼ 25482Ḥizb 49

What Sūrat Fuṣṣilat is about

Sūrat Fuṣṣilat has 54 āyāt in the twenty-fourth and twenty-fifth juzʼ. It is named after its third āyah: a Book whose āyāt are set out in detail, an Arabic Qurʼān for people who know (41:3). The Prophet says he is only a human to whom it is revealed that your God is One God (41:6).

The sūrah tells how the earth and the heavens were made, and how the sky, when it was smoke, answered that it came willingly (41:9–12). On the Day, people’s hearing, sight and skins will testify against them (41:20). Those who say “Our Lord is Allah” and stay firm are met by angels (41:30), and Allah will show people His signs on the horizons and within themselves (41:53).

  1. Āyāt 1–8

A Book set out in detail

The revelation comes from the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate: a Book explained in detail, bringing good news and warning. Most turn away and say their hearts are covered. The Prophet is only a human to whom it is revealed that your God is One (41:6).

  2. Āyāt 9–18

The earth, the sky and two warnings

Allah created the earth in two days and set mountains and provision in it in four. He turned to the sky while it was smoke, and the sky and the earth said they came willingly (41:11). He completed seven heavens in two days. ʿĀd were proud and Thamūd chose blindness, and both were destroyed.

  3. Āyāt 19–29

    When the skins testify

The enemies of Allah are gathered to the Fire, and their hearing, sight and skins testify against them (41:20). They ask their skins why, and are told that Allah made them speak (41:21). The deniers told each other not to listen to this Qurʼān and to drown it out (41:26).

  4. Āyāt 30–36

    Those who stay firm

Angels come down to those who say “Our Lord is Allah” and stay firm: do not fear or grieve (41:30). No one speaks better than one who calls to Allah and does good (41:33). Repel evil with what is better, and an enemy may become a close friend (41:34).

  5. Āyāt 37–44

Signs, and a Book falsehood cannot reach

Night and day, sun and moon are among His signs: do not prostrate to the sun or the moon, but to Allah who created them (41:37). He revives the dry earth with rain. Falsehood cannot reach this Book from before it or behind it (41:42). For those who believe it is guidance and healing (41:44).

  6. Āyāt 45–54

Signs on the horizons and within

Mūsā (Moses) was given the Book, and people differed over it. Whoever does good does it for himself (41:46). Knowledge of the Hour belongs to Allah. People never tire of asking for good, and despair when harm touches them. Allah will show them His signs on the horizons and within themselves (41:53).
