What Sūrat al-Qāriʿah is about
Sūrat al-Qāriʿah has 11 āyāt in the thirtieth juzʼ. It opens with one word, the Striking Calamity, which gives the sūrah its name, then asks twice what it is (101:1–3). On that Day people will be like scattered moths and the mountains like fluffed wool (101:4–5).
Then the sūrah turns to the scales. Whoever’s scales are heavy will be in a pleasing life (101:6–7). Whoever’s scales are light, his home will be an abyss (101:8–9). It ends by asking what will make you know what that is, and answers: a blazing fire (101:10–11).
