What Sūrat al-Layl is about
Sūrat al-Layl has 21 āyāt in the thirtieth juzʼ. It opens with oaths by the night as it covers, the day as it shines, and the One who created male and female (92:1–3). People’s efforts, it says, are truly different (92:4).
Whoever gives, is mindful and affirms what is best will be eased towards ease; whoever is stingy, thinks himself free of need and denies what is best will be eased towards hardship (92:5–10). The sūrah ends with the one who gives his wealth to grow pure, seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, and he will be content (92:18–21).

Two kinds of effort
By the night and the day and the One who created male and female, people’s efforts differ. Whoever gives, is mindful and affirms the best is eased towards ease. Whoever is stingy, thinks himself free of need and denies the best is eased towards hardship. His wealth will not help him when he falls (92:11).
- Āyāt 12–21
For the Face of his Lord
Guidance is from Allah, and to Him belong the last and the first. The most wretched, who denied and turned away, will burn in the Fire. The most mindful will be kept from it: he gives his wealth to purify himself, not to repay a favour, but seeking his Lord’s Face, and he will be content (92:18–21).
