What Sūrat al-Infiṭār is about

Sūrat al-Infiṭār has 19 āyāt in the thirtieth juzʼ. It opens with the sky split apart, which gives the sūrah its name, the stars scattered, the seas burst forth and the graves overturned (82:1–4). Then every soul will know what it sent ahead and what it left behind (82:5).

The sūrah asks the human what has deceived him about his Lord, the Generous, who created him, shaped him and made him balanced (82:6–8). Noble recorders watch over people and know what they do (82:10–12). The righteous will be in bliss and the wicked in fire (82:13–14). On that Day no soul can do anything for another, and the command is Allah’s alone (82:19).

  1. Āyāt 1–5

    When the sky splits

When the sky is split apart, the stars are scattered, the seas burst forth and the graves are overturned, every soul will know what it sent ahead and what it left behind.

  2. Āyāt 6–12

    Your Lord, the Generous

What has deceived the human about his Lord, the Generous, who created him, shaped him, balanced him and put him together in whatever form He willed? Yet people deny the Judgement. Over them are noble guardians who record, and they know what people do (82:10–12).

  3. Āyāt 13–19

    The Day of Judgement

The righteous will be in bliss, and the wicked in fire, which they enter on the Day of Judgement and cannot escape. What will make you know what the Day of Judgement is? It is a Day no soul can do anything for another, and the command that Day is Allah’s (82:19).
