What Sūrat al-Ḥāqqah is about
Sūrat al-Ḥāqqah has 52 āyāt in the twenty-ninth juzʼ. It opens with one word, al-Ḥāqqah, the Reality that must come, then asks what it is (69:1–3). It recalls Thamūd, ʿĀd, Firʿawn (Pharaoh) and the overturned towns, each seized for denying it (69:4–10).
It describes the single blast of the trumpet, the earth and mountains crushed, and eight bearing the Throne (69:13–17). One person receives his record in his right hand and says: here, read my book (69:19); another receives it in his left and wishes he had never been given it (69:25). The sūrah ends: this is the word of a noble messenger, not a poet, and it is the certain truth (69:40–51).
- Āyāt 1–12
The Reality
The Reality must come. Thamūd were destroyed by the overpowering blast, and ʿĀd by a furious wind for seven nights and eight days (69:6–7). Firʿawn and the overturned towns disobeyed and were seized. When the water rose, Allah carried people in the ship as a reminder (69:11–12).
- Āyāt 13–18
The single blast
The trumpet is blown once, and the earth and the mountains are lifted and crushed with one blow. The sky splits, angels stand at its edges, and eight bear the Throne of your Lord above them (69:17). On that Day people are laid bare, and no secret stays hidden (69:18).
- Āyāt 19–37
The right hand and the left
One given his record in his right hand says: here, read my book, I knew I would meet my account (69:19–20). He lives in a lofty garden. One given his record in his left hand wishes he had never seen it; his wealth did not help him (69:25–28). He did not believe in Allah, the Most Great, nor urge feeding the poor (69:33–34).
- Āyāt 38–52
The word of a noble messenger
By what you see and what you do not see, this is the word of a noble messenger, not of a poet or a soothsayer (69:40–42). It is sent down from the Lord of the worlds. Had he made up sayings about Allah, Allah would have seized him (69:44–46). It is the certain truth, so glorify the name of your Lord, the Most Great (69:51–52).
