What Sūrat ar-Raʿd is about
Sūrat ar-Raʿd has 43 āyāt in the thirteenth juzʼ. It opens with the heavens raised without pillars that can be seen, and the earth spread out with mountains, rivers and fruits (13:2–3). Neighbouring plots watered by one water give different harvests (13:4).
It is named after the thunder, which glorifies Allah with His praise (13:13). The sūrah says that Allah does not change a people’s condition until they change what is in themselves (13:11), and that hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah (13:28). Its parable of foam on water shows how falsehood passes and what benefits people remains (13:17).
- Āyāt 1–4
Heavens without pillars
These are the āyāt of the Book. Allah raised the heavens without visible pillars and made the sun and moon run their course. He spread the earth and placed mountains and rivers in it. Plots side by side, watered alike, give different fruits.
- Āyāt 5–18
Thunder and the parable of foam
The deniers wonder how they could be raised again. Allah knows what every womb carries (13:8) and does not change a people until they change themselves (13:11). The thunder and the angels glorify Him (13:13). Truth and falsehood are like water and the foam it carries: the foam vanishes, and what helps people stays (13:17).
- Āyāt 19–29
Those who remember
People of understanding keep their covenant, join what Allah ordered joined, are patient and pray. Gardens of ʿAdn await them, and angels greet them with peace (13:23–24). Hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah (13:28).
- Āyāt 30–43
Messengers mocked before
Even a recitation that moved mountains would not bring the stubborn to belief (13:31). Messengers before were mocked too. Every term has a decree, and Allah erases and confirms what He wills; with Him is the Mother of the Book (13:38–39). Allah is witness enough (13:43).
