What Sūrat an-Nāziʿāt is about
Sūrat an-Nāziʿāt has 46 āyāt in the thirtieth juzʼ. It opens with oaths by those who pull out and those who draw out, which give the sūrah its name, then speaks of the Day the first blast shakes all and a second follows (79:1–7). The deniers ask if they will really be returned once they are crumbled bones (79:10–11).
The sūrah tells of Mūsā (Moses) called in the sacred valley of Ṭuwā and sent to Firʿawn (Pharaoh), who declared himself the people’s highest lord and was seized (79:15–26). It asks whether people are harder to create than the sky (79:27). Whoever feared standing before his Lord and held his soul back from desire, the Garden is his home (79:40–41).
- Āyāt 1–14
The first blast and the second
By those who pull out and those who draw out gently, who glide, race ahead and direct affairs, the Day will come. The first blast shakes all, and a second follows. Hearts tremble and eyes are downcast. The deniers ask if they will return as crumbled bones. It will be a single cry, and they will be on the open earth (79:13–14).
- Āyāt 15–26
Mūsā and Firʿawn
Allah calls Mūsā in the sacred valley of Ṭuwā and sends him to Firʿawn, who has transgressed: would you purify yourself, so I may guide you to your Lord (79:18–19)? Mūsā shows the great sign. Firʿawn denies, gathers his people and says: I am your lord, the highest (79:24). Allah seizes him, a lesson for whoever fears.
- Āyāt 27–33
Harder to create than the sky?
Are people harder to create, or the sky that Allah built? He raised its height, darkened its night and brought out its morning. He spread the earth, brought out its water and pasture, and set the mountains firm, as provision for people and their cattle.
- Āyāt 34–46
When the great overwhelming comes
When the great overwhelming comes, the human remembers what he strove for. Whoever transgressed and preferred this life, Hell is his home. Whoever feared standing before his Lord and held his soul back from desire, the Garden is his home (79:40–41). They ask when the Hour will be; its knowledge rests with your Lord (79:44).
