What Sūrat al-Fātiḥah is about

Sūrat al-Fātiḥah opens the Qurʼān and its first juzʼ. Its seven āyāt begin in the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate (1:1). They praise Him as Lord of all the worlds (1:2) and as Master of the Day of Judgement (1:4).

Then the speaker turns to Allah directly: worship is for Him alone, and help is asked of Him alone (1:5). The sūrah ends with its one request: guide us on the straight path (1:6), the path of those Allah has blessed, not of those who earned anger or went astray (1:7).

  1. Āyāt 1–4

Praise of the Lord of the worlds

The sūrah opens in Allah’s name and praises Him. He is the Lord of all the worlds, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate, and the Master of the Day of Judgement.

  2. Āyāt 5–7

Worship, and a request for guidance

The servant says that worship and the asking of help are for Allah alone. Then he asks to be guided on the straight path, the path of those Allah has blessed, not of those who earned anger or went astray.
